Cooling Water Treatment Flashcards
Purpose of cooling water treatment and what is tested for?
The purpose of cooling water treatment is to prevent corrosion, scale formation, microbiological growth, and fouling within the cooling system, ensuring reliable operation and prolonging the lifespan of equipment. Regular testing for these additives ensures we have sufficient amounts in the system.
What could be the issues and effects resulting from poor cooling water treatment in an engine and what could arise from it?
Acids and Chlorides cause corrosion in hot areas such as linear, heads and exhaust valves. Cause the material to thin and cause a leak or failure.
Calcium can form on hot spots if mineral rich water is used, reducing thermal efficiency.
Scale deposits can build up and inhibit the heat transfer efficiency.
