Earth Faults Flashcards

1
Q

Protection devices, lamps, alarms?

A
  • Protection devices could be a residual current device or a ground fault circuit interrupters. Both measure the balance of current between phases and ground. any differences will indicate an earth fault and trip the circuit.

Lamps / Indicator lamps are provided as a visual indication that there is a fault

Alarms are integrated into our alarm monitoring system and will provide visual and audible alarms

Q

What is a short circuit?

A

A short circuit is a fault in an electrical circuit that occurs when two or more conductors (such as wires or electrical components) come into direct contact with each other, bypassing the normal load resistance. This results in a low-resistance path for current flow, causing an abnormal increase in current and potentially leading to overheating, arcing, electrical fires, and equipment damage.
