Q

Planned based vs condition monitoring?

A
  • Planned maintenance, also known as preventive maintenance, involves scheduling maintenance activities based on predetermined intervals, time-based schedules, or usage thresholds. The goal is to perform maintenance tasks before equipment failure occurs, thus minimizing downtime, preventing unplanned outages, and extending equipment life.
  • Condition monitoring involves the continuous or periodic assessment of equipment health, performance, and condition parameters to detect early signs of degradation, malfunctions, or impending failures. It relies on real-time data, measurements, and analysis techniques to monitor equipment condition and predict maintenance needs.

Q

How do you carry out vibration monitoring, what are you interested in checking?

A

Accelerometers are the most commonly used sensors for vibration monitoring. They measure acceleration levels in multiple axes and convert them into electrical signals for analysis.

The data is then collected and analysised to see any
- Peak values,
- Frequencies that associate with faults (unbalanced, misalignment, bearing failure)
- Trends

Q

Types? Hours, time, condition, types of condition monitoring?

A
  • A calendar base means that components are maintained or replaced after a fixed
period in service regardless of the condition.

-Running hours based on actual operating hours of components rather than fixed calendar periods and is dictated by operating experience with similar machinery as well as designed service life.

  • Condition based monitoring is assessing the equipment until the data shows it is starting to fail or its nor running as efficient
