Post op care of tooth socket
- Socket curetted with periapical curette to remove any periapical lesion
- Thorough inspection
- Sharp bone edges smoothed with bone file or rongeurs forceps
- Lingual and buccal plate compression w/ fingers→ restores expansion of socket and control haemorrhage
- Patient applies pressure on gauze→ 30-45 mins
Post op instructions
Rest
Analgesia
Edema
Bleeding
Antibiotics
Diet
Oral hygiene
Removal of sutures:
Rest
Stay home w/ no work for 1-2 days
Analgesia
Pain killers(salicylates and aspirin) every 4h as long as persists
Edema
- Cold compression extra orally for 10-15 mins every half and hour
- For 4-6 hours
Bleeding
- Bite on gauze over wound for 30-45 mins
- Further hour if bleeding persists
Antibiotics
If patient prone to infection
Diet
-Cold, liquid foods(pudding, yogurt, milk)
Oral hygiene
- No rinsing for 24 hours
- After→ rinsed with warm chamomile or salt water 3 times a day for 3-4 days
- Brushing and flossing avoiding area of surgery
When are sutures removed?
A week later

🔸Clot stabilisers (gelofoam)
Treatment of dry socket
🔸Irrigation w/ warm saline
🔸Medicated package/dressing into area- euginol
🔸Oral analgesics(ibuprofen, tylenol, hydrogel dressing)
