Extraction of fractured teeth and roots Flashcards
1
Q
Extraction technique using root tip forceps
A
- Same as tooth forceps -Tooth must protrude out of gingiva to grasp→ Gingiva reflected
- Same movements and position as teeth extraction
2
Q
Elevator used for root tips
A
Straight elevator
3
Q
Extraction of single rooted teeth with destroyed crown
A
- Straight elevator
- Concave surface of elevator between root and alveolar bone at mesial or distal surface
- Alveolar bone used as fulcrum
- Rotational forces applied to displace root
4
Q
Extraction of multirooted teeth with destroyed crown
A
If roots above alveolar bone→ Sectioned and separated
→After buccal/lingual groove formed with fissure bur to interradicular bone
-Roots removed one at a time→ Root tip forceps or elevator
5
Q
Sectioning of multirooted teeth with elevator
A
- Straight elevator→ placed in bi-furcation w/ concave surface on distal root
- Fingers support alveolar process
- Roots separated using rotational movements→ Elevates distal root
- Mesial root removed with T-bar handle or seldin elevator→ Removes interradicular bone and the root with rotational pressure upwards
6
Q
Extraction of root tips in single rooted teeth
A
- Double angled elevators used→ sharp tip
- Small root tip→ Narrow angled elevator between bone and tip w/ apical pressure to luxate→ mesial and distal pressure to immobilise and remove
7
Q
Extraction of root tips in multi- rooted teeth
A
- Removal of interradicular bone w/ round bur
- Elevator between bone and tooth→ Apical pressure to remove
- Root tip can also be removed with endo file
