Verbs followed by Verb+ING are made passive, with BE +PP+ING.
See, bring, catch, hear, find, keep, notice, observe, send, show.
They saw the monkey climbing the fence.
The monkey was seen climbing the fence.
Verbs followed by ING can be form passive BEING+PP.
Love, enjoy, avoid, deny, describe, dislike, face, hate, imagine, like, remember, report, resent.
I really love being given presents.
We enjoyed taking children to the zoo.
The children enjoyed being taken to the zoo.
Some verbs followed by Object +ING don’t have passive.
Dread, anticipate, appreciate, dislike, forget, hate, imagine, like, mind, recall, remember.
I dread him (or his) finding out.
no passive.
Active VERB+Object+TO Infinitive, are made passive BE+PP+TO INFINITIVE.
Teach, advise, allow, ask, believe, consider, expect, feel, instruct, mean, order, require, tell, understand.
Mr. Wang has taught Peter to sing for years.
Peter has been taught to sing by Mr. Wang.
In some contexts, it is possible to put both verbs in PP.
We expect the government to propose changes to the taxation system.
Changes to the taxation system are expected to be proposed.
Some verbs, followed by Object+TO Infinitive, have no passive.
Like, can’t bear, hate, love, need, prefer, want, wish.
Susan liked Karl to be there.
Not Karl liked to be there. (no passive).
Active verb+TO INFINITIVE+object is made passive verb+TO BE+PP.
1)Start, begin, come, continue, seem, tend.
2) agree, aim, arrange, attempt, hope, refuse, want.
Active and passive in 1) correspond each other, but in 2 there is not the same sense.
Supermarkets started to sell fresh food.
Fresh food started to be sold by supermarkets.
Petra wanted to help me.
I wanted to be helped by Petra. (not same meaning).
