Muscular System - Contractile Properties Flashcards
What is Muscle Fibers made up of?
Myofibrils
What is Myofibrils made up of?
Sacomeres
What is Sarcomere made up of?
Actin and Myosin
What are myofibrils and what do they do?
Are bundles of sarcomeres that contain contractile elements which drive muscle contraction and relaxation
What is epimusium?
The epimysium is the dense connective tissue that surrounds the entire muscle tissue.
What are fascicles?
A bundle of structures, such as nerves or muscle fibers
What is perimysium?
The perimysium is the connective tissue surrounding each fiber bundle within the muscle belly
What is endomysium
endomysium represents sheets of connective tissue surrounding each independent muscle fiber.
What are sarcomeres?
A unit within the myofibril that is repsonsible for muscle contraction.
What three protein types are contained within a sarcomere?
Contractile, regulatory, and structural
What is the role of a contractile protein contained in a sarcomere?
Actin (thin filament) and myosin (thick filament) produce a contraction and shorten the sarcomere
What is the role of a regulatory protein contained in a sarcomere?
Made up of tropomyosin and troponin that allow or disallow the contractile process to take place.
What is the role of a structural protein contained in a sarcomere?
Made up of titin and myomesin that keep the contractile filaments (actin and myosin) aligned.
What connects 2 sarcomeres with each other?
Z-line or Z-disk
