What is a sprain?
A stretching or tearing of ligaments, the fibrous tissue that connects bones and joints.
What is a strain?
A stretching or tearing of a muscle or a tissue connecting muscle to bone (tendon).
What is an exersice-induced muscle cramp?
Involuntary spasm of a muscle or muscles.
What is a fracture?
A break in a bone; varying degrees of severity.
What is tendonitis?
A condition in which the tissue connecting muscle to bone becomes inflamed.
What is bursitis?
Inflammation of the fluid-filled pads (bursae) that act as cushions at the joints.
What is nerve impingement?
A nerve that has pressure applied to it. Often referred to as a pinched nerve or compressed nerve.
What does the RICE acronym stand for?
Rest-Ice-Compression- Elevation
What does chaffing mean?
Location on the body where the top layer of skin is irritated or worn away either due to skin-on-skin rubbing (e.g., thighs) or, more commonly, from skin rubbing against clothing (e.g., bra straps).
What does the “team approach” refer to?
It is suggested that a coach coordinate a ‘team’ of specialists to whom they feel comfortable referring athletes.
