Muscular System - Connective Tissue Flashcards
What are tendons?
A tendon is a fibrous connective tissue that attaches muscle to bone. Tendons may also attach muscles to structures such as the eyeball. A tendon serves to move the bone or structure.
What are ligaments?
A ligament is a fibrous connective tissue that attaches bone to bone, and usually serves to hold structures together and keep them stable.
What are the three types of cartilage?
Hyaline, Fibrocartlige, Elastic
What is labrum?
The labrum is a rim of soft tissue or fibrous cartilage that surrounds the socket of a ball and socket joint to make it more stable
What is labrum made of?
Fibrocartilage
What is an injury to the labrum called?
Laberal tear
What is fascia?
Fascia is a thin casing of connective tissue that surrounds and holds every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fiber and muscle in place.
What does fascia influence?
Fascia influences posture and facilitates body movement
What is the role connective tissue?
Connective tissue is responsible for providing support and protection to the body and supporting the musculoskeletal system’s movement.
What is fibrocartilage?
Fibrocartilage is the tough, very strong tissue found predominantly in the intervertebral disks and at the insertions of ligaments and tendons;
What is elastic cartilage?
Elastic cartilage is a structural cartilaginous tissue for non-load-bearing body parts, such as ears, nose, and epiglottis
What is hyaline cartilage?
Hyaline cartilage is the most common type of cartilage in your body. It lines your joints and caps the ends of your bones.
