What is an athlete’s rate of perceived exertion?
is the measure of how physically and mentally difficult an individual feels an exercise or activity is.
On the RPE scale what does 1 represent?
Very Light Activity - Hardly any exertion.
On the RPE scale what does 2-3 represent?
Light Acivity - Easy to maintain, easy to breathe, and can carry a conversation.
On the RPE scale what does 4-6 represent?
Moderate Activity - Breathing heavily, somewhat uncomfortable, becoming noticeably more challenging, can hold a conversation.
On the RPE scale what does 7-8 represent?
Vigorous Activity - borderline uncomfortable, short of breath, can speak a sentence.
On the RPE scale what does 9 represent?
Very Hard Activity - Very difficult to maintain exercise, difficulty breathing properly, can speak a few words.
On the RPE scale what does 10 represent?
Max Effort Activity - Feel impossible to keep going, completely out of breath, unable to talk.
