MSK- Terminology Flashcards
A Large, round prominence at the end of a bone, generally involved in forming a joint. Covered in articular cartilage.
Condyle
Define Epicondyle
A rounded protuberance at the end of a bone, found on the condyle. Serves as an attachment for ligaments and muscles.
A ridge that serves as a site of attachment of muscles
Supracondylar ridge
A smooth rounded eminence on the lateral aspect of the distal humeral that articulates with radius and contributes to elbow joint:
a. Malleolus
b. capitulum
c. epicondyle
d. condylar
B
Trochlea
Groove eminence on the medial aspect of distal humerus that articulate with ulnar
An eminence line on the surface of a bone sometimes joining 2 structures or bone:
a. Sulcus
B groove
c. fossa
d. ridge
D Ridge
Tubercle?
A small “knobby” protrusion that serves as an attachment point for ligaments and tendons.
The rough eminence that serves as an attachment point of muscles at the proximal aspect of femur.
Trochanter
A moderate protrusion, sometimes rough in nature for skeletal muscle attachment:
A. Tubercle
B. Tuberosity
B
Raised, sharp elevation of bone where muscles and connective tissue attaches. More pronounced than a normal process.
A. transverse process
B. scapularis spinous process
C. vertebral spinous process
B
MALLEOLUS
Bony projections at the end of the fibula and tibia that constitute the lateral and medial malleolus, respectively.
Name a long strip or mark distinguished by texture or elevation.
A. Linea
B. Groove
A
An indentation in the bone surface which runs along the length of a nerve or vessel.
Groove
A shallow depression that may receive an articulating bone or support structures.
Fossa
difference between fossa and foramen
a foramen is a hole through which nerves and blood vessels pass.
while a fossa a depression in the bone for articulation
