Kidneys Flashcards
Explain the location of the kidneys (4 marks)
- Found between T12-L3
- Hilum is on the transpyloric plane
- Right is lower than left
- Between rib 11-3 cm iliac crest
The kidneys are suspended by the mesentery and lie between the abdominal wall and parietal peritoneum.
True or False?
True, because kidneys are retroperitoneal
Lists the relations of the RIGHT kidney
Anterior, inferior, posterior, superior and MEDIAL
Anterior- Right lobe of the liver and 2nd part pf the duodenum
Posterior- Psoas major, quadratus lumborum, transversus abdominus
Superior- Suprarenal glands
Inferior- hepatic flexure of the colon
Medial- inferior vena cava, ureter, renal hilum, renal artery and vein and lymphatics and nerves
The fat that lies directly to the kidneys.
Perinephric fascia
The fascia that lies the perinephric fascia and suprarenal glands.
renal fascia
The renal fascia laterally and superior connects with which fascia
- Laterally connects with the transversals fascia
- Superior connects with the diaphragmatic fascia
Which fascia encloses ureter
The renal fascia encloses the ureter
where do we find the paranephric fascia
Lies posterior to the kidney between the renal fascia and transversalis fascia
The location and the content of the hilum
Found in the medial margin
passageway for 1 vessels ones go inside and one goes out
Continuous with the renal sinuses internally
The blood supply of the kidneys
Renal artery from the abdominal aorta
Renal veins to inferior vena cava
Explain the length of the renal artery and veins
Left renal artery arises higher than the right
Right renal artery is long and lies posterior
to the Inferior Vena Cava
Left renal vein is long and crosses abdominal aorta anteriorly
- Crosses superior mesenteric artery posteriorly
The lymphatic drainage of the kidney
Lymphatic drainage is through the lateral aortic lymph nodes
