Kapitel 62- Total knee Replacement Flashcards
What is the three most common causes of clinical failure following total knee replacement?
- Infection
- Collateral ligament disruption
- Aseptic loosening
Name the implant used
Biomedtrix Canine Total Knee
What are some contraindications for TKR?
- Concurrent neurological disease
- Infections, including concurrent systemic infection (pyo, UVI, dental disease) as well as local infection in the joint
- Other non-infectious systemic disease (cogulapathy, renal or liver failure, immunological or endocrine diseases)
- Neoplasia
- Loss of extensor mechanism
Many dogs that undergoes TKR have already undergone a stifle surgery. What should this implants be removed prior to TKR?
Minimun 6 weeks prior to TKR surgery
What are the advantages of a medial and lateral approach to the stifle respectivly?
Medial: better visibility and protection of the medial collateral ligament
Lateral: visibility of LDE
At what angle to the mechanical axis is the tibial component implanted and what degree of the tibial slope does the implant have?
a. 90 degrees
b. 6 degrees
What are the three main intraoperative complications?
- Damage to the collateral ligaments or patellar ligament
- Femoral or tibial fracture
- Hemorrhage
List the most common post-operative complications
a. Implant wear
b. Aseptic loosening
c. Chronic joint instability
d. Limited ROM
e. Infection
What is the most common implant wear in TKR?
Adhesive wear
(abrasive wear in THR)
