Q

Discuss line placement at manhole fires/emergencies. 180 2.4 and p3 note 6.

A

Precautionary hoselines shall be stretched as necessary. Units should not operate into manholes unless requested by a Con Ed. If requested to place water into a manhole, do not direct the stream directly into the manhole. Instead, let water flow or pour into the manhole. Use a fog nozzle to reduce or prevent shock hazard.Hose lines stretched in the street to prevent involvement of adjacent properties should bepositioned at a point beyond the predictable limits of fire or explosion damage.Where conditions indicate the electric lines in a building are becoming hot, hose lines shallbe stretched and a thorough examination made.Due to the amount of flammable liquidcontained in these transformers, Engine Companies shall also be preparedto initiate a foam operation if the need arises.180 2.4, p3 note 6, 8, 3.3.B

Remember the primary consideration at these types of incidents is the safety of civiliansand fire personnel. 180 4.4

17
Q

Define Non-PCB Transformers, PCB Contaminated Trans. and PCB Transformers.

A

NON PCB = 0-49 PPMContaminated = 50-499 PPMA small percentage of these transformers have attained levels of 500 PPM PCB or greater which classifies them as PCB transformers.

19
Q

If a Con Ed sub station is not staffed or Substation operator is not available, who should the IC contact?

A

I.C. should contact the Substation Shift Manager 180 add1 4.1

20
Q

If Con Edison’s ETA is not satisfactory or if conditions worsen while waiting for theEmergency Crew, the I.C. shall call who?

A

the I.C. shall call the respective Electric Control Center Shift Manager with an updated report and explain the need for a priority response. An updated progress report MUST also be transmitted to the dispatcher. If technical information is required, the I.C. shall call the Electric Control Center ShiftManager for advice and assistance.180 add1 5.2, 5.3

21
Q

Who can call Con Ed from the scene?

A

Only a Chief Officer may call Con Edison from the scene. If a situation escalates to involve several occupancies or if the condition affects a large area, the I.C. should contact OEM for assistance. 180 add1 notes
