Deck 35 Flashcards
What can the search rope used for?
-The search rope is to be used as a supervisory tool to maintain search team integrity under difficult circumstances.-The search rope is also designed to provide members with finding a means of egress under heat and smoke conditions when searching for life or fire.-The rope can also be used to assist in search, prevent duplication of areas searched and to locate units for assistance or relief.1.1 GS
FF leaving an IDLH and wants use the search rope to get out, what should he be feeling for on the rope?
A single direction knot is located 18 inches before the distance knots when traveling in the direction of deployment. This knot will always be closer to the tie off or exit.3.4 GS
The officer supervising the search rope shall remain aware of the amount of search rope deployed by using the distance knots. As He is deploying rope comes to 5 distance knots, if he to transmit how much rope is deployed at that point who does he transmit it too and how much rope is deployed?
transmit this information to members searching on the rope and to the IC or Sector/Group Supervisor.5.11FYI:When a unit deploys the search rope they must notify the Incident Commander (IC). 5.1-5 distance knots is 125 ft of search rope deployed.-A single knot is tied at 25 feet, two knots tied at 50 feet, three knots at 75 feet, four knots at 100 feet, five knots for 125 feet, six knots for 150 feet and the last set of seven knots for 175 feet.- Spacing between the distance knots is approximately six inches. 3.0NOTE:Amount of search rope deployed may not be an indication of member’s location in a building. Due to the numerous turns and obstacles that may be encountered during a search, distance knots may only indicate amount of rope deployed and not actual distance or location in a building. Example; in a maze-like layout, members may have deployed 100’ of search rope and actually traveled only 30’ from point of deployment.GS
When a unit deploys the search rope they must notify the Incident Commander (IC).What should IC consider special calling to scene if search rope in operation (dependant on the fire conditions encountered)?
At operations when a search rope is deployed the IC shall, dependant on the fire conditions encountered, consider special calling additional ladder companies to the scene to support the overall operation. The IC shall consider assigning the special called ladder(s) to the tie off point of the search rope to assist, relieve or augment the unit utilizing the search rope.10.1 GS
The IC shall include the use of search ropes in their progress reports. When two or more ropes have been deployed in the same area with a serious fire condition the IC should consider assigning what?
When two or more ropes have been deployed in the same area with a serious fire condition the IC should consider assigning a chief officer to supervise.10.3 GS
