Deck 113 Flashcards
True or FalseAirbag systems are equipped with an energy storage feature that enables them to deploy even after the battery is destroyed in an accident. (2.6)
True
Agree or DisagreeWhen operating at a vehicle extrication it is important to disconnect the battery. This will start the drain time, which varies by vehicle, for both electronically and mechanically activated systems. (2.6)
DisagreeDisconnecting the battery will only disable the electronically enabled devise, NOT the mechanically activated ones.
Describe what is referred to as the “Rule of 5-10-20”. (2.6)
The rule of 5-10-20 refers to the distance a FF should avoid.5 inches from the side airbags10 inches from the front driver’s side airbag20 inches from the passenger’s front airbag.
You arrive at the scene of a one vehicle accident with extrication. You approach the vehicle to supervise the Hurst Tool operation and notice none of the airbags have deployed. The truck has placed a blanket over the driver who is securely seat belted in place. Should you allow the truck to proceed? (2.7)
No. Seat belt pretensioners can be linked to the mechanically activated airbags. The occupants should have their seat belts removed as soon as practical.
What concerns should have with automatic roll-over protection systems?(2.13)
They are typically stowed behind the seats in convertibles in the rear deck area. You should disconnect the battery and avoid its deployment path. In some newer vehicles they can be manually deployed. When possible, manually deploy it.
How should an Engine Company divide its members when operating at a vehicle disentanglement or extrication? (4.1)
Officer & 2 CFR-D trained FF’s (with trauma bag and C-collars) proceed to accident. The remaining FF’s stretch and charge a precautionary handline.
How will the Ladder Company operate? (4.2)
Officer & inside team proceed to accident for a perimeter survey. If Engine is not on scene, stabilize patient. The roof and OV will bring the Hurst Tool to the scene. LCC blocks traffic and brings additional tools to the scene as needed.
True or FalseThe 1st thing to do is disconnect the battery. (5.1)
FalseOpen all power windows and adjust power seats to assist with the extrication.
Describe proper stabilization of a vehicle in its normal position (on all 4 wheels). (5.4)
Chock each wheel, just behind the front wheels and in front of the back wheels. Step chock the sides of the car between the ground and rocker panels. If necessary, pull the valve stems out of each tire.
What if the car if on its side? (5.6)
Step chock the roof at the front and rear, tie off the under carriage to substantial objects.
