What is organizational socialization?
The process by which people learn the attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors needed to function in an organization.
What is uncertainty reduction theory?
The idea that newcomers want to reduce uncertainty about their new job and organization to make the work environment more predictable.
What are the domains of learning during socialization?
Newcomers need to learn tasks, roles, group norms, and the organization’s culture, history, and values.
What is person-job (PJ) fit?
The match between an employee’s skills and the job’s requirements.
What is person-organization (PO) fit?
The match between an employee’s personal values and the organization’s values.
What is person-group (PG) fit?
The compatibility between an employee’s values and the values of their work group.
What is organizational identification?
When individuals accept and define themselves in terms of an organization’s culture and values.
Why is organizational socialization important?
It affects learning, job fit, attitudes, behaviors, and helps newcomers identify with the organization.
What is anticipatory socialization?
The process of learning about an organization before officially joining, like through school or prior work experiences.
What happens during the encounter stage of socialization?
Newcomers experience the reality of the organization and begin adjusting their expectations and behavior.
What is role management in socialization?
Adjusting and balancing your role in the organization after getting used to it.
