Basic wound management Flashcards
what are the 3 phases to wound healing?
1.lag/inflammatory phase
2.repair phase
3.remodelling phase
factors affecting healing (7)
1.wound perfusion
2.tissue viability
3.wound fluid accumulation
4.infection
5.mechanical factors
6.immunosuppression
7.neoplasia
what can you use to prep the skin
povidone iodine
chlorohexidine
alcohol
3 different debridement methods
1.hydrodynamic debridement (lavage)
2. hydromechanical debridement
3. surgical debridement
what is primary closure
immediate closure without tension - may need drainage point
what is delayed primary closure
1-5days after injury - before granulation
needs lavage and debride daily
what is secondary closure
> 5days after injury + after granulation - skin edges then closed
what is second intention healing
no closure, heal by granulation
what are the3 layers on a wound
primary
secondary
tertiary layers
if a wound is infected what needs doing with the primary layer
use a more absorbent one and change it more often
