Q

What is the pathogenesis of sterile pyogranulomatous pododermatitis?

A

1.Trauma from enviroment +/- self induced (e.g. atopic dermatitis)
2.Weight bearing in heavy dogs distributed to haired interdigital skin adjacent to paw pads
= follicular obstruction, damage + rupture
-lesions start sterile, self trauma = quickly results in secondary infection
-recurrent trauma = increased scar tissue

Q

Where are the lesions of sterile pyogranulomatous pododermatitis found?

Q

What animals are predisposed to sterile pyogranulomatous pododermatitis?

14
Q

How are interdigital follicular cysts treated?

A

*Treat aggressively early on to prevent scarring + reoccurence
*Immune-modulation - systemic and/or topical steroids - ciclosporin
*Topical antiseptics - chlorohexidine
*Protect paw from trauma - boots
