What is athlete’s foot caused by
It’s caused by a group of parasitic fungi called dermatophytes.

Athlete’s foot is very contagious

What is food poisoning caused by
It is caused by the growth of microorganisms in food

Thorough cooking kills them
What are symptoms of food poisoning
Stomach pains, diarrhoea, vomiting and fever.
How are STIs passed from one person to another
They are passed through unprotected sex or genital fluids. They are passed on through bodily fluids or by skin on skin contact.
What is chlamydia
Caused by bacteria
Symptoms - pain when urinating, discharge from penis or vagina
Treatment - antibiotics
What is gonorrhoea
Caused by bacteria
Symptoms - burning pain when urinating, vaginal discharge
Treatment - antibiotics
What is genital herpes
Caused by a virus
Symptoms - painful blisters or sores

What is HIV
Caused by a virus
Symptoms - weakened immune system often resulting in AIDs
No cure
What is the difference between HIV and aids
HIV invades white blood cells and reproduces inside the cells. This weakens your immune system, as the affected cells should be producing antibodies but can’t. AIDs is the final stage of HIV infection, where the body can no longer fight life-threatening infections.
