B5.2.3 Flashcards
What did the British people believe in 1809
They believed that all species on earth were created by God.
Where did Darwin go
Darwin went on an expedition to the Galapagos Islands and read the principals of geology.
What did Darwin find on the islands
During his time on the island he made his famous observation of the finches. He noted that different islands had different finches; but their beaks and claws were different sizes and shapes.
What did Darwin conclude from his observations
Through observations he realised the design of the finches’ beaks was linked to the food available on each island. He concluded a bird born with a beak more suited to their environment would survive and pass on the characteristics - named it natural selection.
Who was Wallace
At the same time of Darwin, Wallace developed similar ideas. He sent them to Drawin and they proposed the theory of evolution together.
What happened after this
Darwin then published the book the origin of species. It was controversial as people believed humans came from God’s creation.
