What is a disease
A disease is a condition that is caused by any part of the body not functioning properly.
When a person is in good health what happens
They don’t have any type of disease
What can diseases affect
Physical and mental health.
What are communicable diseases
Diseases that can be spread between organisms.
What are most communicable diseases caused by
Most of them are caused by microorganisms.
What are disease causing organisms called
Pathogens
What does a fungi pathogen cause in plants and animals
Athlete’s foot - animal
Powdery mildew - plant
What does a bacteria pathogen cause in plants and animals
Tuberculosis - animal
Crown gall disease - plant
What does a virus pathogen cause in plants and animals
Influenza - animal

They can’t be spread between organisms

A poor diet
Obesity
Inheriting a genetic disease
Body processes not operating correctly
What is HPV
HPV - causes most forms of cervical cancer. People recover from a HPV infection without long term problems.
What is HIV
it causes AIDs which weakens a person’s immune system, making it easier for other microorganisms such as tuberculosis causing bacteria to cause disease.
