B1.4.1 Flashcards
What are the resources plants have to take in and how
Carbon dioxide diffuses from air into plant through the stomata
Water enters from the root hair cells via osmosis
Formula for photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide + water -> glucose + oxygen
6Co2 + 6H2O -> C6H12O6 + 6O2
Where does photosynthesis take place
Photosynthesis takes place inside chloroplasts. They get light energy from the sun transferred to them where Co2 + O2 react together to make glucose and oxygen.
What are the two different stages of photosynthesis
Stage 1 (light dependant) - energy transferred from light splits water molecules into hydrogen ions and oxygen gas
Stage 2 (light independent) - CO2 combines with hydrogen ions to make glucose
What type of reaction is photosynthesis
It is an endothermic reaction as light energy is taken in
What is the glucose produced used for
Cellulose - to form cell walls
Sucrose - stored in fruit
Starch - food store
Proteins - for growth and repair
Fats and oils - food store and growth
