What are antiseptics
They kill or neutralise all types of pathogens but do not damage human tissue.
When antiseptics are applied to non living surfaces what are they
It makes them disinfectants
What are antivirals
Are drugs that destroy viruses usually by preventing them from replicating.
What are antiviral drugs designed to do
They are designed to act on one type of virus
What does the activity of an antiviral drug include
. Blocking the virus from entering a host cell
. Preventing the virus from releasing genetic material
. Preventing the virus from inserting its genetic data into the host cell’s DNA
What are antibiotics
Drugs that kill bacteria without damaging your cells. They have no effect on viruses or fungi.
How are drugs for bacteria found
They send blood or stool samples to a laboratory. Scientists grow the bacterial samples on agar plates, they then treat it with different antibiotics to see which is the most effect. This is prescribed as a drug.
What are the halo around the discs where the growth is prevented calledf
Zone of inhibition
What formula do you use to measure the zone of inhibition
