5.7 – Troubleshooting Wired & Wireless Networks Flashcards
Intermittent Wireless Connectivity
not far from WAP
o Reboot the phone
o Reboot the access point
o Check if you are within the correct area
Slow Network Speeds
o Make sure you’re within correct distance
o App running
Limited Connectivity
o Might be able to access LAN but not internet
o Check configurations in IP settings
Jitter
o Affects VOIP call quality
o High jitter = data comes at unexpected rates / inconsistent
o Low jitter = consistent pace
o Ensure the company has QoS = quality of service setup
o Prioritize traffic – Voice traffic doesn’t compete with others
—Because of bandwidth issues
Poor VOIP = Voice Over Internet Protocol quality / jitters
o High = inconsistent data
o Low = consistent data
o Low bandwidth = cause problems
o Drop packets
Port Flapping
o Interface is going up and down
o Physical problem like a pin is bent on the connector cable
o Replace the cable if needed
High Latency
o Slow speeds
o Might affect VOIP calls & streaming
o Implement QoS & increase bandwidth
External Interference
o Onboard NIC card is not working replace with an external USB NIC
