One-to-One communication

  • Public IP = routable IP addresses assigned by an ISP
  • Private IP = non-routable IP addresses

A

Automatic Private IP Addresses

  • Self-assigned by a host when DHCP is not available
  • Generally, an error [tried to get IP from DHCP but failed]
  • Will NOT have internet access & NOT be able to access any files
  • NO LAN access

  • EX: router tells other routers about updates it receives
  • You DON’T assign IPs to Class D
  • Routers assign IPs then talk from 1 router to many routers
