Crimper
a. used to terminate RJ45 & RJ11 heads to twisted pair cables
b. Attach heads to cable
Stripper
used to strip the jacket off the cable
Wi-Fi Analyzer
a. App for desktop / phone that can analyze the types & strengths of wireless networks
b. Useful to understand where to place access points
Toner Probe [Fox & Hound]
a. identify the other end of a twisted-pair cable [have a large bunch of cables]
b. Tone Generator = sends a signal through the known end of the cable
c. The Probe = used to locate the other end of the cable
Punch-Down
a. Tool used to terminate twisted pair to 110 [telephone] or 66 [network cable] block
b. Used in a patch panel
Cable Tester
a. A simple tool that is used to test twisted pair terminations
b. One end of the cable is plugged into the main unit & other end to the remote
c. Lights should go off in sequence on both ends
Loopback Plugs
a. Used to test if a network port can communicate to itself
b. These are available for copper & fiber interfaces
c. Tells if card actually works
Used on switches [ports]
Network Tap
a. Used to monitor network traffic
b. Capture network traffic to analyze it
c. Could be software / hardware
