4.1 – Cloud Characteristics Flashcards
Cloud Computing
- Store your stuff on somebody else’s network
- Store, process, & access data
- Cloud Providers: charge you based on HOW MUCH POWER you’re using
o How much – RAM, CPU, Machine is ON
3 Main Cloud Providers
- Amazon = AWS = Amazon Web Services
- Microsoft Azure
- Google Cloud
- EX: Netflix pulls movies from AWS cloud
Shared Resources
o Hardware resources can provide services to devices beyond their physical boundaries
o This provides more flexibility & scalability with resiliency
—Multiple powerlines / power supplies
Shared Resources:
EXAMPLE
company owns 10 servers [DHCP, DNS, File Server, Printer]
o Not utilizing hardware 100%
o Cloud environment = combine all 10 server powers
o Lease it out to people
—People use to MAX effieciency
o Everyone connecting to cloud:
—-Sharing processors, storage devices, routing equipment
—Whole building shared by many businesses
Metered Utilization
o Cloud is pay-as-you-go service = pay for what you use
o Helps optimize cost when using the cloud
o DON’T pay for storage / cooling / rent of machines
Rapid Elasticity
o Resources can be allocated & reallocated as required to optimize resource usage & cost
Rapid Elasticity:
EXAMPLE
have cloud server & hosting website on one
o DAY = need a lot of processing power
o Allows server to be elastic during the day
o Expand RAM & CPU = intake more users & process faster
o NIGHT = contracts
High Availability
o A hardware failure should have LITTLE to NO effect on cloud services
o Cloud provider has the ability to create RAID systems
File Synchronization
o Makes files available ANYWHERE you can access the cloud
