Used in older networks
Twisted Pair Categories
CAT 5e
Speed - 1,000 Mbps / 1 GB
Distance - 100 Meters
More twist per foot: allows it to handle disturbances to achieve faster speeds
Twisted Pair Categories
CAT 6
Speed - 1,000 Mbps / 1 GB
Distance - 100 Meters
Speed - 10,000 Mbps / 10 GB
Distance - 55 Meters
Includes a piece of plastic to separate the 4 wire pairs which minimizes crosstalk
Twisted Pair Categories
CAT 6a
Speed - 10,000 Mbps / 10 GB
Distance - 100 Meter
Thicker wires to carry a more powerful signal for longer distance
Wiring Standards
two standard RJ45 pinouts for the individual arrangements of the wire connections to the RJ45 connectors within an Ethernet cable:
o T568A & T568B
o B = most popular one
* Blue & Brown pairs are always in the SAME location
* Orange & Green are FLIPPED in position
** Can determine standard by looking at the cable**
