Non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocker

Mechanism of Action
A
Nicotinic ACh R-antagonist ->competes with ACh at neuromuscular junction and prevents binding thus inhibiting muscle depolarization

- Onset of Action- <1 minute
- Peak Effects- 3-5 minutes
- Duration of Effects- 30-80 minutes
- Half-Life- 30-80 minutes

Indications/Field Use
A
- Need for temporary paralysis to facilitate endotracheal intubation
- Need for continued paralysis following endotracheal intubation

Presence of neuromuscular diseases may be associated with prolonged paralysis

Potentiated by lidocaine, procainamide, beta blockers, magnesium sulfate, and other neuromuscular blockers
