Heart Failure Flashcards
Left Ventricle Heart Failure
Left lungs
Left ventricles fails and causes a lack of forward blood pumping, causing back pressure into pulmonary circulation-> causing pulmonary edema.
The left ventricles can’t eject all of the blood the right heart pumps to it via the lungs. The left atrial pressure rises and also pulmonary veins and capillary pressures rise-> forcing blood plasma into the alveoli. This causes pulmonary edema and causes the lungs to have decreased oxygenation capacity. This is most likely due to an MI
Right Ventricle Heart Failure
The right ventricle fails as an effective forwards pump-> this causes back pressure of blood into systemic venous circulation.
The most common cause of Right heart failure is left heart failure.
Signs:
Tachycardia, neck veins engorged or pulsating, edema of body(sacral) and lower extremities, engorged liver, spleen, ab distention- ascites
