Vasopressin (Pitressin) Flashcards
Vasopressin classification
Hormone/vasopressor
Vasopressin mechanism
V1R agonist -> Works on VSMC, by 2nd messenger with G-Proteins causing a cascade of reactions leading to the release of Ca2+ from sarcoplasmic reticulum. Increased Ca2+ -> sustained contractions by VSMC -> vasoconstriction
Vasopressin pharmacokinetics
Onset: Varies
Peak Effects: Varies
Duration: 30-60min
Half Life: 10-20min
Vasopressin indications
Cardiac Arrest
Vasopressin contraindications
none in cardiac arrest
Vasopressin side effects/adverse reactions
minor dysrhythmias, blanching of skin, abd cramps, htn, bradycardia
Vasopressin Dose
Adult:
40 units iv io single dose only, to replace 1st or 2nd dose of Epi
Pedi: Not for pediatrics
Vasopressin precautions
May cause vasoconstriction of coronary arteries, increase myocardial O2 demand
Vasopressin drug interactions
None in ACLS
