NMDA (Glutamate)-R antagonist -> blockade of neuronal signals to the conscious mind from other parts of the brain, creating dissociative anesthesia, euphoria, and analgesia.

Half Life: 5m
NO Indications/Field Use
- Acute musculoskeletal pain
- Pain associated with burns
- Ischemic chest pain
NO Contraindications
- AMS 2° to drugs, EtOH, or head injury
- Inability to comprehend verbal instructions
- Patient with COPD, ABD pain/distention, or thoracic injury suspicious for pneumothorax
- Facial trauma
NO Side Effects/Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, light-headedness, AMS, hallucinations, N/V
NO Dose
Adult:
50/50 mixture of oxygen and NO - self administered until the pt notes relief or drops the mask
NO Precautions
- Use only in well ventilated area
- May be impossible to administer in temperatures less than 21°F
NO Drug Interactions
May potentiate other CNS depressants including narcotics, sedatives, hypnotics, and EtOH.
