Calcium Chloride Flashcards
CaCl2 mechanism
Replacement of elemental calcium -> dissociates rapidly to Ca2+ and Cl- ions -> positive inotropy and chronotropy
CaCl2 classification
Mineral/electrolyte
CaCl2 pharmacokinetics

Bradycardia, n/v, syncope, dysrhythmias, cardiac arrest
CaCl2 dose
Adult: 1gm slow IV io over 1min
Pedi: 20mg/kg slow IV io
CaCl2 precautions
Can cause tissue necrosis at injection site; ensure patent IV line
CaCl2 drug interactions
Forms ppt w/ NaHCO3, flush IV tubing between administration.
Digitalis toxicity when administered to pt currently taking digitalis.
