Unusual Attitudes Flashcards
In what conditions will the instructor put the aircraft before performing any of the unusual attitudes?
acft stabilized in medium cruis
23’’ MAP
2400 RPM
Minimum altitude of 3000’ AGL
What will the instructor tell the student?
Lower your head and close your eyes
What are the positions the aircraft will be put into?
Nose High
- Speed less than 120 KIAS and decreasing rapidly
- either straight or banked
- approximately 23’’ MAP
Nose Down
- Speed more than 130 KIAS and increasing rapidly
- either straight or banked
- approximately 17’’ of MAP
What does the student do on the instructor’s call?
Open their eyes
Take control of the acft
Return it to straight and level flight
What do we do when there is a full panel?
If Nose below horizon:
- Reduce power
- Level wings
- Apply pressure on the controls to return acft nose to horizon
- Adjust throttle and fly acft to return to the desired flight condition
If Nose above horizon
- Apply MAX power
- If in a 45º bank: smoothly lower the nose and when on the horizon or slightly below
- level wings and proceed with the recovery as mentioned above
What do we do when there’s a partial panel? (No horizon or directoin)
If speed increasing and altitude decreasing:
- we are in a nose down position
- immediately reduce power
- centre the turn coordinator to level wings
- smoothly apply pressure to the control column
When altimeter stops:
- control acft to either return it to level flight or into a climb
- use power as necessary
If speed is decreasing and altitude increasing:
- we are in a nose up attitude
- immediately add maximum power and if we are not turning, initiate a turn to help us reach the horizon
If we are turning:
- maintain the turn
- when altimeter stops: we are passing through the horizon
- at this moment center the turn coordinator to level the wings
- smoothly apply pressure to the control column to return the acft to the desire flight condition
