Timed Spirals Flashcards
What’s the objective of this manouver?
Mix of timed turns and timed climbs/descents and required good concentration and good grasp of the instrumental basic
How long does it take? and what altitude difference will there be?
2 minutes
1000 ft
and a turn of 360º
Maintaining medium speed cruise throughout the whole maneuver
Based on a rate of climb/descent of 500 fpm and a standard turn of 3º second
How do we perform this maneouver?
We being at a point on the analogue watch, maintain position of either a climb or descent with a standard turn adjusting the power accordingly to around 17’’ MAP for the descent or 28’’ MAP for the climb
Acft stabilized:
- check every 15 seconds
- At every check comment on both the turn as well as the altitude
How are corrections made?
Smoothly and must never exceed 30º of bank
- We should never arrive before the 2 minutes
- Consider power adjustments when climbing and descending to maintain 500 fpm
- Corrections of a maximum of +/- 200 fpm difference from the 500 fpm standard
- You can maintain initial delay of the turn, but not the climb/descent
How long does it take?
2 minutes
What’s the maxmum error?
5 seconds
Apply the correct technique to level off using the anticipation of 1/3 of the bank angle 10% of the rate of climb descent to finish the manouver smartly
