Figure B Flashcards
What’s the objective?
Designed for the medium to end of the course
Practice it to perfect your instrumental approaches
It integrates all of the speeds and heading parameters to a set time limit and also incorporates configuration changes to the aircraft
How do you perform the maneouver?
Clock is set when beginning the maneouver without stopping the time, during all the segments, and final, during the Missed approach, the total time will be at 16 minutes and 45 seconds
What’s the rate of the turns?
3º seond
What are the things that change?
cruise speeds
What happens so that we complete the turns in the set time limit?
Descents will be at 500 ft/min and speed changes will be during the turns of 180º or more
What’s the last part of the figure?
NPA
What’s the most complicated part?
Part that includes descents and configuring the aircraft
In the last straight leg before final, we will read and perform the APPROACH CHECKLIST
What happens 5 seconds before the 2 minute leg ends?
Select FLAP 10º
Begin to initiate half a spiral descent (1 minute, descending 500 ft with a turn of 180º)
What do we do after this?
Maintain altitude for 1 minute in which we will lower the landing gear
Flap 25º
Decelerate to 90 kts
Do final checklist
What about after?
Descend 500 ft at 90 kts and read the FINAL CHECKLIST
After the minute
maintain altitude and speed until MAP
where we will maintain it for 30 seconds
What happens after this 30 seconds?
Execute missed approach (2.11.2)
What clock should we use to do this maneuver?
The clock on the instrument panel and should be integrated into the cross check
When does it begin?
Second hand on the 12 positions
Adjusting all the subsequent legs and turns
So that we arrive at the missed approach point at 16minutes and 45 seconds
Student should keep an eye on the second hand thoughout the manouver:
This will tell them when to change heading, speed, etc
Although the times in the turns are not exact, we will take them as correct for the total time to be correct
What errors are allowed?
5 seconds in each turn, and the maneuver will utilize all the instrumental maneuvers learn
Anticipation
Cross checking
Position of the horizon
Power settings
