Landing with N-1 Flashcards
What’s important when landing with an inoperative engine?
MAke the final approach as smooth as possible to arrive at the threshold without arriving too high
How will you achieve this?
Rudder trim in the neutral position
Close throttle on the operating engine to prevent the yawing of the aircraft so that we can maintain the runway centreline
Why do we arrive slightly higher than usual?
- To make sure we have secured the fiel, with this we can lower the gear and complete the final checklist
- So that we can descend with less power, therefore flying with less asymmetry, thus making the landing easier
What happens if we make a low approach?
We will have to increase throttle, which will produce more yaw
This will make the approach and landing more complex and less safe
What do we do during the final leg?
Correct for the asymmetry with the rudder
Bank slightly towards the operating engine
with a crosswind:
Maintain the correction to compensate and keep the airplane lined up with the rwy centreline
What’s the speed on short final?
90 KIAS + !GUST
What do we do at this point?
Reduce power
Center the pedals smoothly to maintain the axis of the runway
What do you do in the event of a crosswind landing?
Continue as with a normal landing and the asymmetric conditoin should be gone or minimized
