Steep Turns Flashcards
How do you perform this maneuver?
Find an external reference from the nose of acft
After having completed maneuver checks
Smoothly bank the aircraft to the desired angle (30º,45º, or 60º)
What’s very important not to loose during this maneouver?
Height or speed when entering the turn
What does it ensure?
That you must maintain the nose of the aircraft level with the horizon
At the same time pull back slightly and add a small amount of power as you do so
What do you do once you see your external reference?
Roll out of the bank
Anticipating slightly
Do not allow nose to rise
What are the common errors in steep turns?
- not maintaing the altitude and speed
- incorrect use of pitch with subsequent loss of height and speed utilization
- not sufficiently anticipating the roll out
- trimming too much
What are the tolerances in steep turns?
Heading: +/- 10º
Altitude: +/- 100 ft
Speed: +/- 5 Kt of the requested airspeed
