Approach with N-1 Flashcards
What do we do once we have the engine failure under control?
Proceed to the nearest suitable airport to perform an approach and landing
What do we need to take into account during the approach regarding the reduced performance of the aircraft?
Asymmetric effect could worsen
Hence, we will postpone…
Use of flaps and gear with respect to the normal approach
So the asymmetric affects us as little as possible
What do we need to make sure of once we’ve postponed the use of flaps and landing gear?
Arrive at IAF with the engine failure under control
Dead engine secured
Emergency procedures performed
Emergency checklist read
What if the engine failure occurs during the approach?
Consider it as a failure in cruise and proceed with normal steps
- Immediate actions:
- Cleaning the aircraft to reduce resistance immediate after selecting maximum continouous thrust and ensuring control of the aircraft
What decision does the PIC need to take after?
Attemp to restrt the failed engine during the approach
However, it is very important to complete the securing of the dead engine, so that in the event of a Go Around, we can safely climb with N-1
What do you need to note before being certain of making the field?
To not extend the landing gear and lower wing flaps
Maintain additional altitude and speed during approach
Keep in mind that landing should be made right the first time and go around should be avoided if possible
What’s the final approach speed and flap configuration?
95 KIAS
25º flaps rather than full wing flaps
What do you need to note about the go around?
Under certain conditions of loading and density altitude, it may be impossible
Sudden application of power during single engine operation makes control of the airplane more difficul
