world war 1 veterans who marched on washington DC to protest not being paid their bonuses from the war. happened during the depression
flappers
essentially liberal girls/sluts. they where kinda looked down on for not following social norms.

popular clothing of american immigrants in the 40s.

the klu klux klan, a hate group dedicated to putting blacks back in their place, ie back to when they where slaves.
hoboes
the homeless who ‘rode the rails’ in search of work

a program bringing in mexicans during ww2 to fill the jobs that where left empty by the soldiers going to war

an american organization comitted to opposing the new deal
Brain trust
advisors to franklin Roosovelt, pulled from academic life to assist the president in making decisions
roosovelt coalition
all of the various groups that voted for roosovelt
merchants of death
the arms dealers who sold weapons during ww1, where blamed for making the war worse. part of the reason we banned selling weapons to warring countries after ww1.
scottsboro boys
9 black hoboes acused of rape, and even though there was dick-all evidence, it was black word against white word, so they lynched the blacks.
nye commision
a committee for investigating the munitions industry, essentially contributed to us not wanting to be in WW1. munition makers got crazy fuck rich, and nye exposed them, so people felt betrayed
war production board
a government board to regulate the wartime production. essentially reassigned all production to war stuff, even if it wasnt totally related.
office of price admin
an emergency management company for price control during ww2. essentially kept prices the same and wages the same so that we wouldnt get screwed by inflation.
america first comitee
isolationist group, didnt want america to get involved in europe
war labour board
a board to handle labour, essentially made striking illegal, controled wages and stuff.
rome/berlin/tokyo axis
the alliance of germany, against the alles. duh, got defeated.
committee to defend america by aiding the allies
obvously, a comitee interesed in getting involved in the war along side the allies.
fair employment practies comitee
prevented race discrimination to get minorities into jobs back on the homefront
congress of indsutrial organization
organizing industrial unions, prevented strikes and made sure people worked.
