sons of liberty
essentially colonial terrorists, they where the perpetrators of the Boston tea party in reaction to the Tea act.
the loyalists
also known as Tories, the loyalists where Americans who still supported the British Crown. some fought for the British in the revolution, and a large percentage fled to Canada or the Caribbean after the revolution.
patriots
the group that opposed the British occupation of America, fought against the British and the loyalists in the Revolutionary war.
federalists
supported the constitution, mainly located in the large cities along the eastern seaboard.
anti-federalists
opposed the federalists, wanted what became the bill of rights. mainly located in the more rural areas, the south and the frontier.
society of the cincinnati
organization of military officers during the revolutionary war, committed to maintaining the rights won in the revolution and service to the country. there was a fear of its resemblance to the house of lords, since admittance was hereditary.
jeffersonian republicans
anti big government, believed in power to the common people with a strong emphasis on education. favored France over Britain.
midnight judges
federalists appointed by Adams late in his presidency to secure federalist power after the election
