mattress sutures used
Stents/quills can be used in addition

Debriding the wound
3
Q
Describe delayed primary closure
A
allow body to naturally debride itself (with some assistance)
Then continue with a primary closure
4
Q
Describe the use of drains in wound healing
A
allow fluid and inflammatory exudate to exit dead space via capillary action
5
Q
What is “proud flesh” and why is it an issue?
A
Exuberant granulation tissue preventing epithelial tissue from growing across the wound
Granulation has no nerve supply so proud flesh can be removed to allow epithelial growth
