Q

In reptiles, metabolic bone disease is a common presenting and incidental finding on radiographs. If you were to radiograph a lizard, explain what part of a dorsoventral radiograph would help you diagnose this condition

A

Look at bone density, particularly the distal limbs.
If you cannot see the lizards digits and the settings are correct, this is diagnostic.
The spine and more central bones are only effected if incredibly severe.
Also look for bone shape deformities and evidence of pathological fractures.

Q

What can be seen on the lateral radiograph that you cannot see in the dorsoventral view

A

The abnormal thickening, growth or plaque on the lateral radiograph (B) was superimposed by the heart in the DV views
The lungs and air sacs looks mildly affected in the DV, but severely affected in the lateral
