Training Program Principles - Part 3 Flashcards
Explain what Individuality Principle means
How individuals respond differently to training
What are the 5 main components to indoviduality and state which ones are most important
- Genetic Predisposition
- Individual fitness levels/training status
- Preparedness
- Adaptive response
- Tailoring training to individual needs
Bolded ones are most important, nearly every answer for this should have
Describe Genetic Predisposition
- % Composition of Fibre Types
- Higher % of fast Twitch fibres will respond favourably to anaerobic training
- Higher % of Slow Twitch fibres will respond favourable to aerobic training
Describe fitness levels/training status
- People new to training should start with reduced training volume
- Reduces risk of injury or fatigue
Describe Preparedness
- If returning back from injury, may not return immediately to pre-injury level
- May risk fatigue or further injury
Describe Adaptive response
- Genetic Disposition factored in with psychological factors
- eg: motivation
Should only use after metioning genetic predisposition
Describe Tailoring training to individual needs
- Allows player to optimise potential
- Players prefer/like or require different training methos/loads
Explain what Diminishing Returns principle is
Rate of improvement in comparison to untrained athletes and trained athletes
At what rate will untrained athletes improve?
Fast rate of imrpovement due to more room for improvement
At what rate will a trained athlete improve?
Slow rate of improvement as less room for improvement
State key sentence to describe Rate of Improvement in Diminishing Returns
As athlete nears their genetic potential their rate of improvement slows down
What does Variety Principle refer to?
Reinvigorating a performer to avoid boredome.
What is purpose of introducing variety?
Increases enjoyment of activity and can result in increased improvement
How can variety be added to a training program?
- Changing location
- Changing training partners
- Changing time of day
- Changing exercise that provides same results
When should variety not be added?
When it is at the expense of specificity
