Energy Production - Introduction Flashcards
What are the three types of energy systems in our body?
- ATP-PC
- Anaerobic Glycolysis
- Aerobic
Do all energy systems work at the same time?
Yes, but at varying intensities
What is aerobic
Presence of oxygen
What is anaerobic
No presence of oxygen
Which energy system(s) are aerobic
Aerobic energy system
Which energy system(s) are anaerobic
ATP-PC and Anaerobic Glycolysis
Define sedentary
Inactive and lack of physical activity
What are the two ways of measuring intensity?
% of Max Heart Rate and RPE
How do you calculate a person’s Max Heart Rate?
220-age
What is RPE?
Rate of Perceived Exertion
What does the rate of an energy system refer to?
How quickly the system can produce energy?
What does the yield of an energy system refer to?
The amount of energy produced
What is Passive Recovery
Recovery where body is working at an intensity reliant on aerobic system.
Eg: Sitting, slow jogging, stretching, etc.
What are factors that determine our reliance on our energy systems?
- Duration of exercise
- Intensity of exercise
- Presence or lack of oxygen
- Depletion of chemical and food fuels during exercise
