PE Unit 3 Definitions Flashcards
Define motor skills
Activities that require voluntary motion to achieve a goal
Define Fundamental Movement Skills
FMS are foundation skills that provide basis for the development or more sport specific skills
Define Sport specific skills
Skills developed to suit performance parameters of a certain sport
Define a force
A push or a pull
Define a net force
An unbalanced force
Define mass
Amount of matter possessed by an object
Define Newton’s First Law
An object will remain at rest or continue in a state of motion unless acted upon by a net force
Define Inertia
The resistance of a body to change its state of motion
Define Newton’s Second Law
A force applied to an object will cause a change in motion in the direction of the applied force, directly proportional to size of the force and inversely proportional to the mass of the object
Define Newton’s Third Law
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
Define Distance
How far something has travelled
Define Displacement
The difference between the initial position and final position of an object (with direction applied to it)
Define Speed
The rate at which something is travelling
Define Velocity
The speed of something in a given direction
Define Momentum
The amount of motion that an object has
Define Motion
The action of moving or changing place
Define Linear motion
Movement of body where all body parts are moving in the same directionat same speed
Define angular motion
Movement of body part around an axis of rotation
Define General Motion
A combination of linear and angular motion
Define/State conservation of linear momentum
The total momentum possessed by objects before and after collision will remain same
Define/State Summation of Momentum
The summed up force produced by body parts working together to allow object to possess high momentum
Define Impulse
Impulse is equal to the change in momentum of an object
Define Angular Distance
How far soemthing has travelled around an axis
Measured in degrees
Define Angular displacement
Difference between inital and final angular position of object
Measured in degrees
