Stages of Learning + Feedback Flashcards
What are the 3 stages of learning
- Cognitive
- Assosciative
- Autonomous
What is augmented feedback?
Feedback received from external sources
Eg: coach, crowd, peers, etc.
What is intrinsic feedback?
Feedback received from yourself.
Explain cognative learning
Cognative learners are beginers that rely on augmented feedback for improvement.
List characteristics of cognitive learners
At least 3
- Inconsistent performance
- Stiff and unrelaxed movements
- Low level of performance
- May lack confidence
- Rate of improvement is fast
- Rely on basic instructions and augmented feedback
- Requires lot of trial and error
- Mentally comprehending requirements
Explain associative learning
Intermediate learners in their practice stage that rely on a mix of intrinsic and augmented feedback for improvement.
List characteristics of assosciative learners
At least 3
- Start to refine technique
- More consistent/fewer errors
- Start to develop strategies to eliminate errors
- Gradual improvement
- Can begin to devote attention to game/environment
- More open environment and some random practice required
Explain autonomous learning
Advanced learners that rely on intrinsic feedback for improvement.
List some characteristics of autonomous learners
At least 3
- High level of performance
- Few errors, consistent performance
- Well developed error detection
- Well developed error correction
- Not required to consciously think about tasks
- Can focus on external variables (players/environment)
- Largely intrinsic reliant feedback
- Small performance improvements
- Random practice in open environment is needed
List some factors of intrinsic feedback
list
- Visual (feedback that comes from seeing something)
- Auditory (feedback that comes from hearing)
- Proprioception (you can feel your position- sensory impressions)
- Touch (feedback you feel)
Do not get proprioception and touch mixed up!
List factors of augmented (extrinsic) feedback
- Knowledge of results - Specific feedback about task (very beneficial for learners)
- Knowledge of performance - Relates to characteristics of performing a task (Focus on how)
What is feedback linked to
Stages of learning
What are the purposes of feedback?
- Fix errors
- Motivation
- Reinforcement of positive behavior
Explain concurrent feedback
Augmented feedback provided during the activity
eg. giving split times in a marathon
Explain terminal feedback
Augmented feedback provided after an event or a performance
eg. giving feedback during a time-out in baseball
