6
Q

What are discrete movements?

A

Have an obvious begining and an end.

Eg: Chest pass

Q

What are serial movements?

A

Several discrete skills performed in sequence.

Eg: Triple jump, bowling in cricket

Q

What does self-paced mean?

A

Performer has control to determine when to start the movement

12
Q

What does predictability of the environment refer to?

A

Wether environmental factors are in control (indoors) or uncontrolled (outdoors).
* Indoors - Predictable environment; no wind, no sun glare, consistent surface.
* Outdoors - Unpredictable environment; wind, rain, sun glare, change in surface.

Q

What does low inter-trial variability mean?

A

Low:
* Repeats skill in similar way
* No change to performance from training
* Little impact for oponents
* Consistent surface
* Same sized playing area

Q

What does high inter-trial variability mean?

A

High:
* Order of skills changes
* Change in distance, angles, etc. from one time to next
* Athlete must react and adapt the skills

15
Q

List the variability factors possesed by closed skills.

A
  1. Are self paced
  2. Predictable environments (indoors)

Q

List the variability factors possesed by open skills.

A
  1. Are externally paced
  2. Unpredicatable environment
  3. High inter-trial variablity (must react to people)
17
Q

What are Fundamental Movement Skills?

A

FMS are foundation skills that provide basis for the dveelopment of more sport specific movement skills

18
Q

List the 3 fundamental movement skills

there are 3

A
  • Stability skills (balance)
  • Locomotor skills (movement)
  • Manipulative skills (using tools; rackets, bats, etc.)
19
Q

List some skills taught from a young age

A
  1. walking
  2. throwing
  3. kicking
  4. balance
  5. jumping
These must be taught from a young age

No set list depends on culture environment

20
Q

What are Sport Specific Skills

A

Skills developed to suit the performance parameters of a certain sport.

21
Q

How are Sport Specific Skills developed?

A

Through the manipulation of a range of fundamental motor skills

22
Q

What is the manipulation of a skill

A

Manipulation of a skill is to make it sport specific.
Eg: Throwing is a fundamental movement skill; throwing a curve-ball is sport specific skill
