The Citric Acid Cycle Flashcards
1
Q
Where does acetyl CoA come from
A
From the oxidation of pyruvate and FA (fatty acids) in mitochondrial matrix
2
Q
How is Acetyl CoA made
A
From pyruvate via pyruvate dehyrdrogenase
Involves decarboxylation of pyruvate, oxidation and transfer of CoA
Releases 2e-
3
Q
What is the CAC
A
Acetyl CoA(C2) + Oxaloacetate(C4)=Citrate (C6)
4
Q
How is entry into CAC controlled
A
Pyruvate dehyrdrogenase is regulated by immediate products
5
Q
What are the points of control in CAC
A
- Isocitrate dehydrogenase
- a-ketoglurate dehydrogenase
These two control points allow re-direction of cell resources
6
Q
What does pyruvate dehydrogenase contain
A
E1 - catalyses first decarboxylation of pyruvate
E2- transfers acetyl group to coenzyme A
E3- recycles lipoyllysine
